SyAAF L-39 Albatros - Updated IV

The most beautiful still for SyAAF units ever! The aerobatic team represented by L-39's passing over Rasm Al Abboud (Kweres) AFB sometime in early 2000's.

It's abnormal to see a Syrian Albatros had its fin tip tinted in Red. This armed L-39ZO carries the number 2052.

A 2007 dated 'Selfie' taken in Kshesh (Jarrah) AFB shows an L-39ZO with serial 2060.

A still in Kweres airbase shows row of L-39ZO's on the secondary western tarmac, one of which carries the serial 2096.

Again in Kweres airbase, a still shows an L-39ZA carries the serial 2127 and fitted with FAB-100 bombs.

This looks as well in Kweres AFB.

Row of L-39's in Neyrab airbase on tarmac infront of the overhaul facility, these Albatroses carried out extensive sorties over Aleppo area last year. Note the fin of the MiG-23MLD to the far left of the photo.

Photos of SyAAF MiG-21s - Updated III

Unique and for the first time a stunning photo for a SyAAF MiG-21bis carries a serial starts with 22xx ready to scramble inside a HAS fitted with four AA-2 air-to-air missiles (variant is not clear whether R or M).

A SyAAF MiG-21bis spotted maneuvering over Erbeen town in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus on 20th Nov. 2012.

Another bis spotted flying over Mleha town on 26th May 2014 during the Syrian Army offensive at that area.

The next day as well, 27th another bis was spotted.

Group of various variants of MiG-21's phased out in Deir EzZour AFB. The one on Tarmac looks the only operational one.

Amazing shot for a Syrian MiG-21bis dispensing flares over Eastern Ghouta towns on 12th May 2014.

Another shot for the same here, as it looks fitted with S-24 air-to-surface missiles.

I'll end this post here with a wonderful still of a SyAAF MiG-21bis seconds after it left the runway of Dmair AFB fitted with four FAB-100 bombs. The serial looks like 2241.

SyAAF MiG-23MLD in Action!

(Source: Lens Haidar Razoq)

A valuable photo I could find on web during my daily search for SyAAF stuff, the first appearance of a SyAAF MiG-23MLD flying over Syria!
This MLD was spotted flying over Al-Zara town (Homs governorate) on 7th March, 2014 during the Syrian Army offensive to retake Qal'at Al Hosn 'Krak des Chevaliers' area earlier this year.

(Source: Internet)

The MLD -externally- is famous -and special- with its original chaff/flares dispensers mounted over wing roots at both sides as shown in the profile above.

The same profile is blackened here and compared to the photo of the Syrian MiG-23 that confirms it is one of the 33 ex-Belarusian MLD's delivered to Syria on 2009.

Photo From Syrian Su-24M2 Cockpit

In my post of yesterday I published a photo appeared recently on a FB page for a partial view inside a Syrian Su-24 cockpit. The cockpit definitely belongs to one of the modernized 'M2' Fencers.

As we can clearly see the new double-glass ILS-31 HUD replaced the old one, the black rubber/plastic shade over the device below the HUD is removed as well.

Su-24MK Cockpit (airliners.net)

The new layout of the 'M2' cockpit can be seen here above, and a brief about the capability of the modernized Su-24M2 can be read HERE. It's interesting to know that the 'M2' standard is capable to carry the armament originally developed of the Su-34, but the question is: Did Russians supply such advanced weaponry to Syrians?

"The first modernized Su-24M2 entered the 4th Center for Combat Use and aircrew training in Lipetsk in 1999. Work on the integration of new avionics systems was carried out by "Hephaestus and T", located in Zhukovsky. On airplanes instead of OBC "Orbita-10" establishes a new computer SVP-24, satellite navigation receiver GLONASS / NAVSTAR, LED collimator KAI-24, OP-LED TV 4TM. Improved composition suspended managed bomb and rocket weapons designed to attack ground targets. Refinement machines implemented in the Novosibirsk Aviation Production Association (NAPO) them. VP Chkalov.

In June 2000, together AHK "Sukhoi" and NIIREK was introduced more advanced avionics upgrade option Sukhoi Su-24M2. Update provided for replacement of the old radar display on new monitor IT-23M with cathode-ray tube, installing a new system instead giroinertsialnoy SLE and compact inertial MIS-F, 737-A receiver satellite navigation system, LED display digital maps, head-up displays ILS-31 (similar to the Su-27SM) instead of the display system to attack and navigation sighting PPV, as well as other new radio devices and flight data recording system, pre-entry systems. Subsequently, the aircraft avionics were added color LCDs instead of electron beam, the new software for the onboard computer. All of these updates should ensure that guided missiles Kh-31A, Kh-31P, Kh-59MK, air bombs KAB-500Kr with television guidance system and electronic systems electronic warfare. It is reported that the improved Su-24M2 first flew in 2001 and has since been exhibited at various airshows with suspended guided missiles and new types of bombs"

Photos of SyAAF Su-24 - UPDATED

Some new photos for the Syrian mighty bomber, the Su-24 Fencer. It was known that SyAAF used to own around 18~24 units of MK variant of this aircraft, but recently some photos were published on the website of the 514 ARZ overhaul facility in Rzhev (Russia), here I would strongly advice to read Oryx' article about the recent 'M2' modernization of SyAAF Fencers HERE.
Looking at the photo above -Su-24 carries the serial 3506- extracted from the website of the said facility would make a Syrian proud to see that the SyAAF Fencers are overhauled with soft hands :P

Another exclusive share to our blog from one of our great friends (thanks again!) shows the fuel nozzles under engines' outlets those are responsible of the cloudy trail the SyAAF Su-24's were spotted a lot performing that in their way back to T4 AFB in order to balance the weight of the aircraft by emitting extra amount of fuel till reaching the acceptable landing weight.
To the left, a nose of a Su-22M.

Although it's very partial, but a great shot for the cockpit of a SyAAF Su-24.

A SyAAF Su-24 spotted firing a guided missile -notice the trailing of the missile at the bottom of the photo- on a building in Douma town (suburbs of Damascus) on 12th May 2014 after continues failure of precisely targeting that building by the MiG-23BN's.

If the SyAAF Su-24 are spotted rarely over Damascus, this bomber flies 3~4 sorties a day over towns and villages of Idleb governrate and Jabal Azzawiyah.

Syrian Su-24 inside a HAS, could be either in T4 AFB (the home base of this bomber).

SyAAF MiG-23's - UPDATED (MLD/ML/MF)

Amazing close up to a Syrian (ex-Belorussian) MiG-23MLD with serial 07 in Neyrab airbase (Aleppo IAP) stationed at the main tarmac in the military part of this airport infront of the overhaul facility...(Thanks for our great friend for this exclusive share to Luftwaffe A.S blog)
Syrian air force received on 2009 '33' MiG-23MLD/UB's from Belorussia and were stationed in this base for overhaul, till this date only few numbers left (around 3~5).

Syrian MiG-23MF in a ground attack sortie over Sarmin town (Idleb governorate) spotted on 11th April 2014.

Another MF was spotted before landing in Hama AFB (current base of this variant) early 2014.

MiG-23MF just seconds before dropping FAB bombs over villages of Jabal Azzawiyah (Idleb governorate), spotted on 18th Jan. 2014.
