SyAAF MiG-23ML Crashed (2016-07-29)

 
It is reported yesterday 29th July by pro-regime sources that the pilot Major Mohammad Suleiman Ismail "الرائد محمد سليمان اسماعيل" whom was flying a MiG-23ML took off from Nasriyeh AB had died when his fighter hit the ground in Qalamoun mounts area.

Despite claims of shooting down the aircraft by ISIS but the real reason is a phenomenon most of non experienced pilots suffers from which is called the "Spatial Disorientation" as the pilot in question was performing a night flight in order to get him ready for non-day-time sorties.

It is good to mention here that since 2015 Nasriyeh AB is housing only MiG-23ML after detaching all MiG-23BNs to Dmeir AB and Seen AB.

SyAAF MiG-23ML Shot Down (2016-04-22)

Yesterday 22nd April 2016, a SyAAF MiG-23ML of No. 67 squadron piloted by Capt. Azzam Eid and operating from Dmeyr AB crashed to the east of Dakwa mounts in the eastern countryside of Damascus due to an engine failure.

The visible digits of the serial of this MiG read 754, since it is an ML then the first digit should be 2 making the full serial 2754.

The footage of the wreck can be seen HERE while pilot whom ejected safely is more likely to be caught a POW.

SyAAF MiGs in Hama AB

I will start this post with a special thank to 'PFC Joker' whom shared this photo which I consider one of the ever greatest stills taken in Hama AB as it discloses a lot of facts here!

At the top, a SyAAF Mi-17 with serial 2972.

Inside the HAS which is located at the furthest north eastern part of the air field, a SyAAF MiG-23ML (MLD) -of the second batch with its Gray radome- housed fitted with what looks to be unguided rockets pods.

To the right hand, a SyAAF MiG-23ML (first batch) with serial 2752 looks stored in this airbase. It's known that this variant did not exist in Hama AB ever in the past, just the MF and the trainer UB. The aircraft carries 'The Factory' emblem just beside the serial under its cockpit and of course, the famous two-toned camo applied to everything has wings in 'The Factory' in the military section at Neyrab AB.

The most important part of this photo is the graveyard; it shows again one of the Ghaddafi's ex-LARAF MiG-23MS (notice the green paint overwrite the LARAF serial under flash at fin tail). It is known that this airbase NEVER used to operate this variant which was only available in Seen and She'irat ABs (before being decommissioned in Abu DhHur AB) at the time the MF and UB variants were deployed in Hama AB.
Also it disclose what I can say the first photo of a MiG-21 -it is UM here- appears almost completely with its Three-Tone camo (Ocre, Olive Green and Chocolate Brown)!! Remember the fin tail of the 2204 MiG-21bis shot down near Sabboura in 2014 HERE

SyAAF MiG-23s in Hama AB

I'm sorry for being away for a while, I just love to share with you one of the most fabulous photos I put my hands on, a shot from Hama AB for a SyAAF MiG-23ML (serialed 2771) and the more modern MiG-23MLD (serialed 4000).
Sadly the ML is fitted with dumb bombs performing ground attack sorties...like the Libyan ones.

Finally, SyAAF made it and released a considerably wide report for some of its air power in Hama AB. 
In my opinion, this was a reaction for the increasing calls -I noticed from pro-regime Facebook pages- for the SyAAF to publish in media its power similarly to the Russians they did in Lattakia airport.

The aged 2306 MiG-21bis was there piloted by Col. Wisam Juneid and fitted with four FABs. 

At tarmac of the MiG maintenance yard, two MiG-21UM's are stored; one of them carries the serial 2366.

I think this 2771 MiG-23ML is deployed from Dmeyr AB temporarily to Hama AB, that's because of the shortage of Jets in this base which suffered a big loss since the beginning of the Syrian Civil War, not to talk about the increasing number of decommissioned airframes thrown here and there all around the base.

The same applies for the 4000 MiG-23MLD which was based with its 4005 sister in Shei'rat AB as seen previously, especially that Hama AB doesn't need interceptors now. 

The 4005 MiG-23MLD is seen in a HAS while the 4000 was stationed at tarmac.

SyAAF MiG-23ML Shot Down (2015-04-24)

24th April 2015, a SyAAF MiG-23ML operating from Khelkhleh AB -serial is still unknown- and piloted by Captain Hasan Muhammad Mahmoud was shot down by ISIS' fire and crashed near Bir Qasab area to the North East of the airfield.
Pilot was KIA due to serious injuries.

Above, a new photo emerged the last month for a MiG-23 at least armed with R-24 missiles (long white) -could be either ML coming from Sh'eirat AFB or an MF coming from Hama AFB- maneuvering over Lattakia coast at very low altitude. Are SyAAF patrolling the coast regularly or it was an incident to spot that MiG-23 that day!?!?

One of the rarest shots for an armed MiG-23ML inside a HAS, typically fitted with R-24R (AKA AA-7 Apex) medium-range air-to-air missiles under wing roots pylons and R-60 (AKA AA-8 Aphid) short-range air-to-air missiles under fuselage.
 

The first time to spot a MiG-23ML fitted with B-8 unguided missiles pods over Damascus area, performing raids against ground targets, the place the BN dominate there.

Syrian air force received on 2009 '33' MiG-23MLD/UB's from Belorussia and were stationed in this base for overhaul, till this date only few numbers left (around 3~5).
