SyAAF Aircraft in Action !!


More stills for SyAAF units of different types could be taken while in action.
Let's start with the L-39's which conduct air raids over Aleppo and recently over Raqqa (providing that some units are based in Kshesh airbase which is very close to Raqqa).
Above a unit carries serial 2112 spotted somewhere over Aleppo province.


This could be the last photo for this L-39 with serial 2119 downed on 19 November 2012 near Ain Jara town in Aleppo province (Source: CNN).


A still I extracted from an HD video shows an L-39 with serial 2125 spotted over Raqqa.


MiG-21 spotted over Jarjanaz town - Idleb province, on 1 September 2012.


Su-22M-3 releasing FAB-500.


Another stills for Su-22M-3 extracted from an HD video spotted while bombing Ma'arret Annu'man town on 10 October 2012.


Another still for the same Su-22 carrying two FAB-500's fitted to the pylons of the wing roots, the two bombs on the belly pylons look like cluster ones.
 

Clear still for a Su-24MK loaded with eight free-falling bombs maneuvering over Jabal Azzawiyah in Idleb province before it released its hell, dated 21 November 2012.

    Great pictures R.S., pity of the circumstances they're taken.

    Do you happen to have better MiG-21 pictures , i'm trying to figure out what are those "things" at the wing root (slightly staggered). Could they be the syrian type chaff@flare dispensers? (like on MiG-23 and Su-22).

      but some experts says they are realy the locally fitted flares dispensers.

    Thanks for your reply, would be great if ever there will be available a close shot of those dispenses. As for the SPRD-99 boosters , they are jettisoned immediately after take-off, even before gear retraction, so they can't be those boosters.
    Did you heard by any change of other upgrades for the MiG-21s, like more modern missiles (R-73)and/or avionics update?

    Great photos, but i d say the Su-22 is a Su-22MK4, because of the R-60 rails and flare dispenser on the fuselage.

      Couldn't it be the developed production of Su-22M-3? regarding those dispensers, I saw few photos for Polish Su-22UM-3 fitted with similar ones.
      I'd like to say it's Su-22M-4, but the biggest evidence should be the ram air intake at the root of the fin..

    I 've already seen dispensers on Su-22UM-3's but never on single seaters. The finroot would also be the best evidence, but unfortunately... :) I 'd still say they re M-4's because they sport the same pattern as Iraqi M-4's and i thought Syrian M-3's had a lighter sand and olive green camo. And there s still the R-60 rail. I thought they were only for M-4's. Do you perhaps have and idea of the serial? Tried to decode it, but without result. Anyway, thanks for the great stills!

      Correct, only on UM-3's, that means I was also the first one to spot a SyAAF Su-22M-4 ;)

      It seems that those features were incorporated on late-production M3's, but unfortunately we don't know whether the Syrian Air Force Su-22M3's are early- or late-production.
